Bug Description
Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.20
In 6.06 and 6.10, Intel 537 winmodems could be forced to work by installing 3rd party drivers. With Feisty, according to a number of reports[1], these drivers cannot be compiled. As a result, Feisty users won't be able to use Intel 537 modems.
A workaround or a fix in someway is needed. We already are bad at supporting winmodems, last thing we need is to drop "support" (!) for winmodems that can be made to work...

This is not a kernel bug, nor do we have control over 3rd party drivers that we do not support. I can tell you that we are considering improvement of Winmodem support, but it won't happen in Feisty.
