Bug Description

I have an intermittent bug in Unity. I have setup unity with a mouse gesture to show workspaces when I move the mouse pointer to the lower right corner. At some point after opening an application from a right-click menu on a launcher icon, the unity laucher appears with the same right-click menu opened whenever I switch workspaces using the above mouse gesture. This happens automatically immediately after switching a workspace without me activating or clicking on the Unity launcher. The Unity laucher is currently set to auto-hide.

I'm running an up to date version for Ubuntu 12.04 (development branch) with Unity 3D.

This bug is intermittent and I have been unable to find a consistent means of duplicating it.

Thank you for your bug report. What version of Ubuntu do you use? Could you take a screenshot showing the issue?

I tried, but with a right-click menu open on the unity launcher, the
launcher has focus and I can't activate another program while in this
state. Do you have a suggestion?

Thanks, didn't know the feature existed. Please see attached
screenshots. On the first shot you can see that the Unity Launcher
already appears as soon as I use the mouse gesture to show the
workspaces. Once I select a workspace, the right-click menu opens.
Clicking anywhere on the desktop or open program closes the Unity
launcher and menu, so it does stay stuck there.

Obviously Eclipse was the last program opened just before the problem
started to occur. I've tried to open other programs for the launcher
(using right-click menus and not), but once it gets stuck its the same
right-click menu (in this case that of Eclipse) that opens every time I
switch workspaces.

I can also confirm that the same problem occurs when using the keyboard,
ie. <super>s to expose and then using arrow keys and <enter> to select a
workspace. So the problem is not related to using mouse gestures.

I've checked CCSM and can't find any overlapping key bindings between
Unity and Expo.

ok, so to summarize:

- you use an hidden launcher
- you go on a workspace with something running
- you do super-s
- you use the arrow keys to move to another workspace
- you press enter

which correctly change your workspace but also opens the right click menu?

Does it happen directly after login? is it specific to some applications? does it happen in a guest session?

I can't confirm here...

Yes, auto-hide turned on.

> - you go on a workspace with something running
Don't know if this is relevant. Any workspace I try this from give the same result, even an empty workspace

Yes.

> Does it happen directly after login?
No, only after a while. I can open several applications without the problem and then suddenly it happens.

> is it specific to some applications?
No, but it happened a few times with Eclipse. I've installed the version from their site, not the version from the repositories. I've also created a custom right-click menu for it: ~/.local/share/applications/eclipse.desktop. I've attached it.

> does it happen in a guest session?
While experiencing this problem I logged in as a guest. I set the launcher to auto-hide, opened a program using a launcher right-click menu and tried the<super> s technique stated above. The launcher appears when the workspaces are exposed, but once I select a workspace the launcher disappears. When I logged out and returned to my original desktop, the problem remained. So the problem seems to be specific to the user.

> I can't confirm here...
My problem too. It's intermittent, can't find a way to replicate it, it just happens when it feels like it. I can however confirm that once it happens it does not go away until I reboot. I'll reboot and try a few more ways to replicate the problem again, but before I do so is there any log files or setup files I can attach to assist?

Ok, thanks for the reply, setting to low and keeping as New, without steps to trigger it it's going to be hard to debug

i can reproduce something similar on quantal by right click on a launcher item during workspace .. it doesnt open the quicklist, but when you select a workspace it opens it as soon as the workspace is in focus .. thats fine i guess .. who would want to right click an item during workspace right? but now whenever you change workspaces that same quicklist is opened regardless of the last quick list ..
