Bug Description

1. Open the appearance window and maximise it.
2. enable and disable the auto-hide option several times

= the window is moved with the launcher.

Normally, the system settings are not maximizable - however, smaller screens have the automaximize feature for even unmaximizable items.

Thank you for taking your time to report this bug to make Ubuntu better. It is very much appreciated. However, I am unable to confirm this bug on my end.

1. Basically the appearance window has only minimize and close buttons. So I am not really sure how you maximise it.

2. Secondly, on my system, I get the following behaviour. If a window is currently beneath the launcher, then when you toggle auto-hide option, the window moves in order to compensate for the launcher. This is the intended behaviour.

Is this what you are describing about? If not, please provide a video screencast for better understanding of your situation.

When I enter the appearance window via System Settings, the window is already maximised. Otherwise you're right.
The unmaximised window should move with the launcher. But this is different and feels unnatural.

sid51, hmm..I really cannot maximise either the system settings nor any settings in it. Are you running this on a low resolution netbook? Anyways I dont think this is an issue.

1. For maximised windows, on auto-hiding the launcher, the window will move left and right. This is expected and natural to accommodate the new state of the launcher.

2. As for minimised windows, if they are beneath the launcher they will also move as can be seen in the end of your screencast. It does not appear smooth. However, this is probably because of the low frame rate and cannot fixed at the moment.

Yes I am using a netbook with low resolution.
But still I think, if it is possible for netbooks to have the System Settings maximised, the Appearence window should fill the whole space again after auto-hide is re-enabled.
Olthough this is a small issue, it would be good to not allow maximised system settings even on low resolution devices.

gnome-control-center doesn't decide where to be placed on screen (nor do other applications), that's a compiz, unity issue
