Bug Description

soundconverter doesn't crash, it hangs.
I wish there was more information, but this is all I know.
If the fix needs more information, I'll be happy to provide it.
Just tell me what you need and how to get it.

If you start it from a terminal, what output do you get there?

Perhaps this information helps:
Some of the time pausing and unpausing starts it up again.
But there comes a time when even this doesn't work and I have to restart
soundconverter.

I start it from a terminal.

Oh...system Ubuntu 11.10. I am considering going to *BSD for stability.

It's wonderful what a re-boot can do (Linux???, that's the Microsoft
solution). It seems to be behaving better.
We're going off the Internet on the 17th. I'd like to work with you
when we get back on.

I did start it from the command line with the --debug option. 314K
later it hadn't failed. I occasionally had to pause and restart. It
usually works a few times, but then it doesn't work. then I terminate
and restart. I had difficulty terminating soundconverter with the red X
button. Finally killed the process from another terminal. It went down
nicely with an ordinary kill, didn't need kill -9. This is a Good Thing.

Just did a 2000+ conversion, and it worked as expected.
There is one potential problem: if there is an error, a dialog is shown and the conversion stops. The problem beeing that I was doing something else, and didn't see the dialog...

Hmm, something not thread-safe in GStreamer perhaps?
Whoever can still reproduce this, is it reproducible also with "soundconverter -j 1" (or after using the GUI preferences to limit the parallel jobs to 1)?
