Bug Description

ubuntu 12.04 (LTS) Downloaded and installed today Saturday, 14. April 2012

When trying to install an application (vlc, chromium and audacity is the one I have tried) from the software center, I get the message:

"
Previous installation hasn't been completed
The installation could have failed because of an error in the corresponding software package or it was cancelled in an unfriendly way. You have to repair this before you can install or remove any further software.

details: E:I wasn't able to locate a file for the libaacs0 package. This might mean you need to manually fix this package.
"

I pressed "repair" every time the message came, but I still cannot install programs. I think this problem also affects the landscape-client installation.

I added a aptdaemon task as it would be great if that would be able to fix this error condition.

Hello,

Could you please attach the following file: /var/log/syslog and /var/log/apt/term.log

Furthermore please run "sudo dpkg --configure -a" in a terminal and post the output here.

If you allow I could also connect to your desktop using Skype or Empathy (XMPP/Jabber) to investigate the issue and repair the system. The problem is that we cannot reliable reproduce the error in our testing environment.

Hi to all of you

The next day I checked for update with pressing the "updates available..."-button. I noticed that the one update was updating libaasc0. I therefore checked if the update fixed my problem, and so it seems. Now I have installed all the programs I could not install before.

If you still need me to give you information please say so in a comment.

I just managed to reproduce the error on Oneiric by duing a kill -9 of dpkg during the debconf prompt of apt-get install ms-ttfcorefonts-installer

The corresponding entry in /var/lib/dpkg/status:

Package: ttf-mscorefonts-installer
Status: install reinstreq half-installed
Priority: optional
Section: contrib/fonts
Version: 3.3ubuntu4

Changed in aptdaemon (Ubuntu):
importance: Medium → High
