Bug Description

im using Ubuntu 12.04, updated as of 10-04-2012 , and im getting this output when tracerouting for an URL:

elhoir@zeus:~$ traceroute http://www.asal.atisaemt.es/
http://www.asal.atisaemt.es/: Nombre o servicio desconocido
Cannot handle "host" cmdline arg `http://www.asal.atisaemt.es/' on position 1 (argc 1)
elhoir@zeus:~$

Im connecting to internet via an HTTP proxy which requires authentication

An URL is not a valid host name. The host name is www.asal.atisaemt.es. I don't think it would make sense to add support for various application-level protocols to all network tools.

Marking as "invalid" to mark this as not requiring a fix in Ubuntu. If you want to argue against this decision, please feel free to reopen the bug, but do add a reasonable rationale in that case. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
