when set to 4x2 square, the page number say this - 123 12

when set to 2x5, 2x4, or 2x6 square, the page number say this - 123 12 (last 2 not functionable, dissapear when going into category view and then back into regularview, comes back after closing and reopening)

A resolution to Slingshot bug #954121 could invalidate this bug.

So this affects me too, as I am also on a notebook. But I have managed to get Slingshot running beautifully by fiddling with a few different options. The solution to this particular issue for me was to change it to 2x7. It does take up a lot of the screen, but it looks nice, actually. I also applied some blur and transparency, and attached it to a hot corner.
