Bug Description

Binary package hint: totem-gstreamer

On Feisty with all codecs installed and where a wmv file (even with mms) works out, the CNN Pipeline does not works out.

The problem could step from the file type use by CNN wich is "application/x-vnd-cnn-pipeline".

I know that Totem with GStreamer is able to play the CNN Pipeline (because I follow the development of GStreamer and some people of the Fluendo team has already play CNN Pipeline with Totem-GStreamer) therefore it's an Ubuntu bug.

Thank you for your bug. Could you run firefox on a command line and copy the log to a comment? Looks like you need to register to use that website

That doesn't seem to be due to the mimetype, rather to the website:

"** Message: totem_embedded_open_internal 'mms://wmscnnlive.stream.aol.com/live/cnn/pipeline_1?1175272993734-A9FEE7BC-43200-fefeac79' is-browser-stream 0

** Message: AFTER _open (ret: 1)
Could not read packet header: Success
** Message: Error: Could not connect to this stream"

Trying to play mms://wmscnnlive.stream.aol.com/live/cnn/pipeline_1?1175272993734-A9FEE7BC-43200-fefeac79 with totem-xine, gst-launch-0.10 or mplayer doesn't work neither

Can you play that video with some other software?

But as the CNN Pipeline it's paying, the link works only for one duration given. I need each time to use the webpage (with my login) to have a valid url.

can you try to play the URI while the token is valid from a command line with "gst-launch-0.10 playbin uri=...." and not what happens to a comment? getting a GST_DEBUG_NO_COLOR=1 GST_DEBUG=3 gst-launch-0.10 playbin uri= log could be useful

I just tried watching mms://wmscnn.stream.aol.com/cnn/business/2007/04/11/lake.develop.luxury.cnn.ws.wmv . The totem-gstreamer mozilla plugin never seemed to start on this stream. Totem the application did start but didn't play any sound. Playing it through xine-ui popped up a warning dialog saying that audio codec (ACELP.net) was not supported.

The issue seems to be in libmms (see bug #212064).

As mentioned in the GNOME bug report CNN has moved to using flash everywhere so perhaps it's best to close this report...

Closing, since upstream has set it as obsolete: "cnn.com seems to be using flash streaming everywhere now."
