Bug Description

This bug seems to happen quite often when using several 3D applications at the same time if an external monitor was plugged in at some point but was removed later. I always had GNOME shell, cairo-dock and Minecraft running while I experienced the lookup.

Are all 3 of those required? Can something simpler than Minecraft be used in its place to reproduce the problem?

No, having experienced this for several weeks after I reported this bug, my experience is that this bug is more likely to occur if you have many different 3D programs open at once. The load and broken queries the more likely is this bug to occur. Going in powersaving mode greatly speeds up the process (Sometimes even only 10 seconds after login!).

The following kernel command-line is a working work-around for this problem: (Not sure which parts do the magic yet)
 i915.i915_enable_rc6=0 i915.i915_enable_fbc=0 i915.semaphores=1 acpi_osi=Linux pcie_aspm=off

I am experiencing the same bug. it affecet my daily work many times a day, needing hard reebot, or software reboot after switching to a console mode

It happens with unity, unity 2d, and cairo session.

I'd like to post the segnalation error, but I don't know how to copy and paste from it..sorry
