Bug Description
#974125 mplayer crashes with illegal instruction is said to be about lack of sse3
I am testing Lubuntu 12.04 daily build mainly to make sure it works with a non-pae cpu: IBM thinkpad T41.
This bug in mplayer is independent of pae and sse3 as far as I can see. Mplayer fails to play and prints 'illegal instruction, bad usage of cpu/fpu/ram'. I tested it also in a Dell Dimension 4600 with Pentium 4 2.8 GHz with pae, and it was the same problem, so the mplayer bug is not related to non-pae. I saw the report that the bug should be related to sse3. But I don't think so, because an AMD Athlon cpu without sse3 can play video with mplayer (booted from our non-pae CD drive). Another computer with double Xeon cpus also plays well with mplayer. So my experience is that it works with 64-bit computers but won't work with 32-bit computers. I have tested the i386 iso file burned to a CD booting the various computers.
