Bug Description

When menus_have_icons is enabled, for example through the Gnome Tweak Tool, the placement of icons in the global application menu is wrong. Instead of begin placed in the allotted space on the left, the icons are placed as if they were part of the text. This results in ugly gaps on the left, a ragged appearance of the menu and decreased readability. Attached screenshot shows the problem in more detail.

Example of bad icon placement - Firefox using the appmenu. The problem is also present in the indicator applets, so it might be an issue with libdbusmenu.

This is how menus in Ubuntu should behave according to the design at [1]. However, a designer should probably reply to the concerns raised in this bug report (epsecially the decreased readability bit).

menus_have_icons is an unsupported configuration, so we won't be working on this but patches welcome!
