I wouldn't expect the file /usr/share/initramfs-toosl/hooks/casper to be installed on a system unless it was a persistent usb install or if the casper package is installed. I suggest uninstalling the casper package from your system.

Changed in initramfs-tools (Ubuntu):
importance: Undecided → Low

Thank you for your reply. The caspar package does not show to be
installed on my system.

Did you look for caspar because the correct package name is casper (notice the 'e') and your VarLogDistupgradeHistorylog file definitely shows it being installed.

I am a fairly inexperienced Linux user.
Looking through synaptic, I see:
caspar - makefile snippets for centralized configuration management
however this is not installed in my system.
casper, and ubiquity-casper are installed in my system.
In researching what this is, I am advised this is regarding making a
live Linux USB stick. I have never done so.

Should I just uninstall these two programs?
Thanks
