Bug Description
After a fresh install of Ubuntu 12.04, and install of kde-full package, I logged in with KDE and tried to change the desktop background.
After selecting "Solid Colour" instead of Image, I used the color selection window to choose black colour. When I clicked "OK", however, the entire set of "Desktop Settings" windows closed, and my desktop was filled with white colour.
Reopening the settings and setting the black once again works fine.
I have dual-monitor (separate X screens) setup and the same problem happened on the second screen. However, after black is set, setting other colours works fine.
