Please check if solved by update to g-s-d 3.4.0: when at choice of "Try Ubuntu"/"Install Ubuntu", (connect net and) switch to tty1 (ctrl-alt-F1) and 'sudo apt-get install aptitude' then use 'sudo aptitude'. (Or it's possible with ftp and dpkg if, like me, you also have errors with apt-get.) (Can also get http:// ddebs.ubuntu. com/pool/ main/g/ gnome-settings- daemon/ gnome-settings- daemon- dbgsym_ 3.4.0-0ubuntu3_ amd64.ddeb via curl). That hasn't crashed for me yet, so (touch wood!) looks like 3.4.0 will work for Precise.
