Bug Description

Liferea 1.8.3 in Ubuntu 12.04 [beta2] has incorrect count of "unread". e.g. *real* unread = 0 but reported as 1, then after uninstall/reinstall of Liferea, reported as 2!

On first install & imprt of [opml] feedlist from Ubuntu 10.04 [apparently successfully] Liferea asked me to check all was well & then delete the no longer required 1.x.[x] directory (I can't remember the full version number named but the named directory requested was found & removed.

This is now 2nd bug reported by self against Liferea 1.8.3 "unread" folder tonight [other bug being #973682 - "unread" is not changed to bold whemn unread items exist]... are they releated I wonder?

Tempory fix:

1/ read [or mark as read] all items [markmfolder holding them as read]
2/ delete & recreate the Unread folder [maybe using option "rebuild" would do?]
3/ create your own top level folder & move all other folders into it.

voila - all [appears to be] working ;)

do you have any conversion filters on any of the feeds? I had one which was broken (it pointed to a script that did not exist anymore). removing this seems to have fixed the unread folder.

The "Mark all read" and a subsequent "Rebuild" does work temporarily - until the next restart (of liferea) that is. A look into the DB shows, that all unread items are marked as comments and contain comments to feed items. I used sqliteman to peek into ~/.liferea_1.8/liferea.db:

SELECT * FROM items WHERE comment=1;
SELECT * FROM items WHERE read=0;

Both queries come up with the same items.

A newly created search folder _seems_ to solve the issue, although the rules are identical.

I just merged and uploaded the latest Debian version (1.8.6-1) to my PPA. Please test it:

@bojo42:

could you add a version for 12.10? Liferea is still at 1.8.3 in Quantal.
