Bug Description

Binary package hint: kaffeine

While attempting to play the following file (downloaded and saved to Desktop): http://cisx1.uma.maine.edu/~wbackman/bsdtalk/bsdtalk105.ogg
Kaffeine crashes not Konqueror, not KWin, but the whole X!

X restarts automatically and KDM pops up again. Trying again to play the OGG crashes the X again, 100% reproducible.

I have applied all the patches available for Kubuntu 7.04, as of March 27, 18:00 UTC.

X driver: "savage", on Omnibook XE3-GC.

Don't mark it as duplicate of #48957 or #28326, as it is not.

Cannot confirm, using binary nvidia driver.
Does it crash also when you use other players? E.g. maybe the visual audio representation in Kaffeine causes it.

(just to be sure: this is a audo-only file, isn't it?)

Yes, it is an audio-only file.

We might need to try it with a "simple" video driver, not with nVIDIA nor ATI.
It happened to me with "savage".

Maybe some updates happened meanwhile that could have possibly fixed it in the process. Everything was valid at the moment when I filed the bug.

That Kubuntu install is not anymore on the laptop, as it was a serious show-stopper. When Feisty will be released, I'll give it another try.

I can't confirm neither. (tested with both nv and nvidia drivers)

So maybe it's an upstream bug in the "savage" driver?! So far, it only shows with "savage" on a S3 Savage driver card!
However, on the same hardware, there are _no_ similar problems with distros like Pardus 2007.1, or Mandriva 2007.1 RC3, using "savage" too!
I can't afford to reinstall Kubuntu on the same hardware right now, and it seems there isn't _anybody_ with an S3 Savage video card using Kubuntu :-(

NOTE: even if reported for Kaffeine, the bug is definitely in the X server or in the savage driver.
No matter what would happen to Kaffeine, it's unacceptable to crash the whole X.
The bug _won't_ be find in Kaffeine, but it could be a starting point (unless everybody is using an nvidia card).

With the latest updates, the bug is no longer here, everything works just fine.
We will never know what happened.
Should be closed.

"Fix released", according to the reporter.

Changed in kaffeine:
status: Unconfirmed → Fix Released

try change option in Kaffeine xine video driver

Kaffeine -> Settings ->xine Engine Parameters -> Video -> driver change from "auto" to "xshm"

this working for me, when Kaffeine logout me from X when I run DVB-T
