Unspecified difficulty with synaptics driver?

When I first installed ubuntu warty 4.10 on this laptop gdm wouldn't start. I
poked around in XF86Config-4, careful to revert my changes after every try, and
found that I had to put a comment for my touchpad like this:
# InputDevice "Synaptics Touchpad"

Please tell me if I can do anything to help.

Just tried the hoary version and it works on this system. Warty should be updated?

Apparently this is fixed in Hoary, and it's totally unreproducible in Warty anyway.
