Bug Description

When I plug in a webcam or the scanner this isn't shown under "attached devices" as in 11.10. Only "printer" is shown there - which is a network printer which is connected already when I boot the PC. When I plugin the webcam before I boot I also can't see it - but the webcam works fine for example with cheese.

Is this really a 'feature request' since this behaviour *did* work in 11.10? Isn't it more of a regression since before upgrading to 12.04 my scanner did show up in the indicator - above Printers - (which was convenient!) but after upgrading it is no longer there?

This is neither a Wishlist or a feature request since it worked on 11.10 using the same hardware on different PCs. Like you just said it is a regression. I have also marked this bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/992937 as duplicate of this one that explains the behavior.

Anybody apart from me still having this issue. I verified 2 laptops using 11.10 and then 12.04. Again the Webcam does not yet appear in the "Attached Devices" section in the Cog icon in the upper right corner.

Yes. It works in 11.10 but not in 12.04. I can confirm that.

Just to be sure, the way to get to the devices or to manage the devices would be to go into the system settings menu?

Is it going to be removed from the menu at some point in 12.04 like in 12.10?

Aritchie, it's unlikely to be removed from 12.04, because it's not a high-impact bug.
