Bug Description

The 'Show Desktop' launcher icon (enabled through MyUnity) doesn't follow the transparency pattern, as 'Dash Home', 'Workspace Switcher' or 'Trash' launcher icons do, and it cannot be moved from the top of the launcher.

To reproduce this issue go to MyUnity 'Desktop' tab and switch the 'Active Show desktop icon' option on. The icon that will appear in the launcher will not be transparent, as other 'system' icons are.

Can you modify it with CompizConfig Settings Manager?

Yes, I can. But, first of all, it doesn't change the fact that, at least in my opinion, the icon should be 'transparent' by default, the same way as 'Dash Home' or 'Trash' are. And one may want to have it so without changing backlight settings for all the launcher icons.

Second of all, this by no means solves the other issue I reported: the 'Show Desktop' icon cannot be moved anywhere from the top of the launcher (even above Dash Home icon).

Anyway, thanks a lot for the interest. Hope some frutfull ideas will come up soon in here.

By 'even above Dash Home icon' I meant the 'Show Desktop' icon is actually there, and cannot be moved FROM the above of the Dash Home. I believe placing anything above Dash Home in launcher breakes the paradigm somewhat, doesn't it?

This is a duplicate of bug #904856, which is now fixed.

No Marco, it is not. The other bug (and its fix) concerns ONLY the situation in a 'backlight toggle' mode, while this bug is about 'backlight always on' situation, which is by no means fixed (or even related) to the one you've mentioned. Please, have a look at the screenshot I've attached to THIS bug, and comapre it with those of the other bug.

To sum up, this bug is still not fixed and needs some attention.

I think this bug is fixed too. Take a look on the attached screenshot. The backlight is always on, and all the icons (workspace switcher, show desktop, devices and trash) look the same. But when I changed the icon theme back to ubuntu-mono-dark, the show desktop icon is different (maybe a icon theme bug?).

You are absolutely right that with Faenza it looks OK, but this is not because there is no problem - the Faenza theme just doesn't follow this pattern with some of the icons, namely 'Workspace Switcher' and 'Show Desktop'. It does only with 'Dash Home' and ' Trash' - please, have a look at the picture attached. The 'Dash' and 'Trash' icons went red, following the colour of the wallpaper, while the colour scheme for 'Workspace Switcher' and 'Show Desktop' remains grey-blue.

Anyway, I should have made it perfectly clear from the beginning: the issue I'm complaining about is with the default theme. And I think we should expect it to be fixed for the default one. User-maintained solutions, like Faenza, can do whatever they want. :)

The problem is not fixed and it's not a duplicate of #904856. Proof from last days: #990643. I reported that bug when I was not aware of existing of this report, so I have to mark my report as duplicate.

I can confirm the fact that the icon in question does not follow the transparency pattern as suggested. Please see my attached screenshot for reference.
