Bug Description

After changing brightness settings in System Settings > Personal > Brightness, a restart causes the screen to get fully bright again. I have read that this is a GNOME limitation - however, most users including me will probably want that once they set a brightness, it be saved.

Current workaround that is used is add an echo <brightness_level> > /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness line at /etc/rc.local.

The ideal situation would be to save the value of brightness when someone changes it.

Thanks for the amazing 12.04!

Hello
Just yesterday there was a fix on gnome-settings-daemon, can you please try a live usb session (create it with startup disk creator) to see if fix your problem ?
You can download the latest image from :

I did not install a live CD, but I updated from the Update manager. I updated all the available components including the gnome configuration settings daemon. The problem still exitst and I am still using the old hack.

There is even more buggy in the brightness settings. When I go to battery power the screen dims. This is ok, but when i go back to main power the screen wil dim even more instead to return to normal level of brightness.

Experiencing a similar problem in 12.04 64-bit... Brightness settings not persistant, all packages up to date. The brightness seems to change at times as well, it's especially noticeable if I open Firefox on a blank white page, you can see the brightness adjusting itself for some unknown reason

I verify this problem. (12.04 x64 here).

It critically affects battery life, so its importance is not jut "low". Battery life is lower when using ubuntu compared to windows 7, so I think that it should be fixed as soon as possible.
