GoldenDict just crashes with the following stacktrace:

GoldenDict has crashed with an unexpected exception

Exception: Config::exCantWriteConfigFile
Message: Can't write the configuration file

I use Ubuntu 11.10 and have goldendict 1.0.2~git20110706-1 installed.

Actually for me it was enought to change ownership for ~/.goldendict/config file from root to mine.
So, error is that default ownership for config is root.

Alternatively, you could just delete ~/.goldendict/config file and GoldenDict will recreate it anew.
