Bug Description

After some hardly extensive editing in gimp the menu entries suddenly disappear from some gimp windows.
Disappear means: The top-level menu-labels are visible and clickable, but they only reveal empty menus.
Most of the time not all are affected, but after a first encounter it usually starts to spread to some other gimp windows.
The bug is not reproducible by performing a certain action but is sure to appear after a while of using gimp.
Restarting the application fixes the problem.

I was not sure what package to report this bug against, so please direct this bug to the right place.

I attached a screencast showing the bug.

Did Unity restart while the GIMP window was open?

No. That just happened without any noticeable crash/restart. Haven't reproduced this problem so far with the latest unity version as I haven't been doing any gimp work recently.

Please note how other gimp windows of similar type still have their menus in the video. If you need more information I can prompt this problem and then do any debugging work you suggest.

Could you add your .xsession-errors to the bug when getting the issue? in case it has something useful ... do you get similar issues with other softwares?

Happened again. With ~36 open Gimp windows though. Seems not like a bug one would hit regularly....

How on earth did I count 36 windows?! Must have mistyped... But around 20 is likely correct.

This error also occurred on my unity-installation few times while using gimp & did almost drive me crazy, because it does not affect all open gimp-windows.

When the error appears it does ONLY affect new images/windows. All windows loaded until then are working just fine. But every new window-instance does not open the menu-entries (just showing the headers and opens 1 ultra mini child-entry with no caption).

Btw... i now just figured out that the Print-Screen function is not working then hovering a unity menu. Maybe another bug :P

I have not been able to spot anything suspicious in the .xsession-errors file. Maybe the eyes of Sebastien would spot anything :-)

This doesn't only happen with gimp; it happens with a multitude of applications for me. Here's a screenshot of it happening with Shutter.
