Bug Description

In XMPP you need to allow other to add you in their list of contact.

When i want to add my friend in my contact's list is impossible, he don't have the notification in Empathy 3.3.92.
If i go to his gmail (i use gmail too) i could add me. In pidgin 2.10.2 he could have the notification.

Expected:
Have the notification to add the contact who want's to add me.

Sorry for my english.

You should mean, i must use Pidgin for add contact, isn't it ?

I don't understand the difference, it sounds like you're not getting subscription requests just like in bug 886056.

Bug 886056 was for not getting a messaging indicator for subscription requests (when someone tries to add you to their contact list). I added that feature, so you should be able to click on the indicator in the messaging menu to confirm the subscription request.

For me the difference is that:
the guy know someone try to add him, he had a message or notification ("I get a notification bubble but can't do nothing about it")

Me, i have nothing. It's only because i chat on IRC with my future contact, i know he wants to add me.

So you get no notification bubble and nothing in the messaging menu? If so, then that isn't a telepathy-indicator or empathy bug, it would probably be telepathy-gabble or telepathy-mission-control-5.

Yes

"If so, then that isn't a telepathy-indicator or empathy bug, it would probably be telepathy-gabble or telepathy-mission-control-5."
Could be.

I don't know how it'work inside. For me, chat it's empathy's role and problem's chat is empath's problem. I am just an user who wants to help ;-)

We definitely appreciate the bug reports, lets make Ubuntu better :)

I can't reproduce this bug though, I see the notification bubble as well as the messaging menu entry for the request. telepathy-indicator handles adding the request to the messaging menu, and empathy handles displaying the notification. However, if empathy isn't actually running, it won't display the notification, but it'll still go in the messaging menu. Can you confirm that your empathy contact list is open when you get a subscription request, and you still don't get a notification bubble?

My point in the previous comment was that if you don't get the notification and it isn't ending up in the messaging menu, it is either something specific to what is in your contact list or a bug in a lower level library. We need to pinpoint that. Note: If you have added them in the past (even on another computer), and never removed them manually, it won't display a notification either, because you are actually already subscribed to them.
