Other 12.04 test system with old Wallch package 2.1-0Ubuntu3 works fine. Doing the upgrade to 3.01-0ubuntu1 breaks it.

Hello David!
I think I know what causes your problem. It is the fact that you had the old configuration of the program.
Please Press Ctrl+P to open the Preferences window, go to the 2nd button (normally 'General') and choose from there 'English' as language. Click the down-right button (normally 'Save') to save and restart Wallch.

Alternatively remove the directory ~/.config/Wallch to remove the old configuration and restart Wallch.

The problem was caused because of the old configuration (in the position of the Arabic language there was English in the old version) and that is what causes the problem.

Removing the .config/Wallch folder *after* the Wallch process had been killed and then restarting fixed it.

Yeah, it was because of the previous version of Wallch.

When I add a folder with accents, i.e: "imágenes" , the files can't be readed. When I add the same files with "add file" options, it works ok. I think is a encoding problem with the path.

The MainWindow.conf file starts with:

1\item=/home/apolinux/Im\xe1genes/wallpapers/1.jpg
2\item=/home/apolinux/Im\xc3\x83\xc2\xa1genes/wallpapers/Dinosaurios.jpg
3\item=/home/apolinux/Im\xc3\x83\xc2\xa1genes/wallpapers/2.jpg

the first item reads ok, but the others not.

I hope it helps to fix the program.
