Bug Description
When on battery hdparm keeps to spin down the hard disk very often (every 2-3 seconds). Even after the last update to hdparm 3-4 days ago where it is set with -S34. The only fix for me is to set hdparm-functions with -B254 when on battery.

I have the same problem. For me the cause is the hard drive (Western Digital Scorpio Blue 500GB) which seems to have only 2 modes: either it doesn't spin down at all, or it spins down after 5 seconds. I have tried various parameters with hdparm, and -B is the only thing that matters.
I wish it was easier to disable spin-down, that's all.
