Bug Description
OS: 10.04.04
xorg: 7.5+5ubuntu1.1
Every reboot exhibits the same behavior: name and PW are accepted, but the session terminates during the welcome sound, and goes back to the login window. A second attempt almost always succeeds, and logins are normal until the next reboot. This laptop has been in service for a couple of years, running 10.04 LTS with updates (currently 10.04.04) throughout, and this problem only started a few months ago.
I have captured some files with a console login. I put some logs in pastebin.com (they don't tell me much, I hope they help you)
Xorg.0.log is at http://
Xorg.0.log.old is at http://
.xsession-errors is full of applications saying the X server died.

This problem has disappeared, apparently "on its own," by which I mean as a result of one or more of the updates I have installed in the meantime.
Feel free to mark this as resolved.
