Bug Description

Just installed version 0.8.44 update. Windows 7 Professional 64-bit on Lenovo G560 laptop, integrated intel graphics. When editing metadata, and after clicking the 'Download Metadata" button, the results window title bar is above the visible screen. My resolution is 1366x768. As a workaround, I can do an "Alt" + "Spacebar" and then type "M" for "Move". I can use the arrow keys to then move the results window. This behavior did not occur in calibre 0.8.43.

calibre contains no code to set window position, that is decided by your
operating system. I dont see how this can be fixed at the calibre level.

OK, I just wondered if there was a starting position indicated for the new window. I've been using calibre since version 0.8.33 and have never experienced it until the upgrade this morning. I also have calibre 0.8.43 loaded on my desktop PC, which is pointed to the same ebook location. I'll upgrade that one and see if it exhibits the same behavior. My desktop resolution is 1920x1080.

Thanks for the prompt reply, and terrific product. There will be a donation coming.

There is code to set the window size (which is set to height 850x550), but not its position, that is chosen by
the OS.

That would explain it. My laptop screen height is 768; and even though I have my taskbar set to the smallest size, that still leaves only approximately 740 pixels for the desktop. In calibre 0.8.44, the bottom of the metadata download window is aligned with the top of my taskbar, which also explains why the top title bar is beyond my screen. Was the 850x550 dimension a change in 0.8.44? In any case, I'll roll back to 0.8.43. Thanks for your replies.

No the size wasn't changed. What was changed is the graphics toolkit calibre
uses was updated. Apparently this is what is causing this behavior, and it
seems to happen only on windows. I'll investigate some more.

I updated today to the new release and this bug was not fixed for me.

Release 0.8.45 fixed the bug for me. As a workaround for users still affected, might I suggest after the "Metadata download" window opens, simply place the mouse cursor on one of the 3 visible sides of the window until the mouse pointer turns into the double arrow. Simply click once, and the window will resize to fit the visible screen.

The 8.45 update fixed, but 8.46 broke it again.

I tried it with calirbe 0.8.46 on both windows xp and windows 7 and it worked
for me. But feel free to go back to the previous calibre release if you like.
