White stripe in the upper left corner of the screen

In Ubuntu 12.04, sometimes, a white stripe appears in the upper left corner of the screen. But every time, it's in the exact same place.
Last time it appeared right after a new Google Talk chat window (incoming) opened from Google Chrome.

Hi, I have noticed something similar, but in my case it's a big white box which covers most of the screen. As reported, it's in the exact same place every time, and appears (randomly, as far as I was able to infer) when I'm browsing with Google Chrome.

Unfortunately I'm clueless about which package would be most responsible for this.

After some research I found this bug to be a duplicate of bug #940603, most possibly a Google Chrome-related issue.
