Bug Description

When viewing video's I get glitches in the display playback. This usually involves the centre third of the screen not updating at quite the rate of the rest of the display, or horizontal lines. This generally only happens when a lot is changing on screen, for example when the camera is panning fairly quickly.

I am using Linux Mint 12
I have tested this with a number of DVD's, .avi files, and .divx files
I have tested this using VLC player and Movie Player

Apparently what I am seeing is video 'tearing'

I rooted round more on this and found some other bugs that are related:

I seem to have fixed the tearing issue by applying a workaround detailed in comment 59 of https://www.libreoffice.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=37686. This involved adding the following line to my /etc/environment file:

CLUTTER_PAINT=disable-clipped-redraws:disable-culling
