I was trying to raise a context menu in an app by right clicking.

compiz crashes, window decorations and gnome panel dissappear.
Applications get unresponsive to keyboard input. If you have the restart extension installed in Firefox, you can restart it and regain keyboard input at least in Firefox.
If compiz were restarted in a terminal window, this is what I get:

Killing off remaining running compiz elements and starting metacity in the console makes the desktop usable again.
