Bug Description

I'm running the beta of 7.04 and some dialog boxes are text-less and textboxes don't show input.
I'm not sure if this is xorg, xgl/Intel945 drivers, or beryl ... but it's worth a bug as it's a PITA :)

Thanks for this report. Could you please describe which dialogs this happens with. If you can are able to attach a screenshot, please do so so that we can pin down this problem more easily.

Also, are you using Beryl? Do you also experience the bug if you aren't using Beryl?

Keyring password prompt - the one in front of wep keys.
More often than not the default terminal app.
update manager password prompt textbox
Firefoxes downloads window doesn't update.

Some of the windows can be restored by blinding then up and down again too.

same for me here. resizing the windows (such as the terminal) makes the text show up. some menu items are not higlighted, such as in the administration-menu, whereas the settings menu items are highlighted. thought i messed with some settings, so i uninstalled beryl, deleted the settingsfolder of both emerald and beryl, same problem again.

intel graphics, too. does NOT occur with metacity, just with emerald as the window manager.

Thanks for your replies. I'm moving this to beryl for now.

loafer:
 - could you confirm whether this only happens with beryl/emerald?
 - does the workaround Dirk mentions (resizing the windows) work for you?

both of you:
 - what version of beryl are you using (output of 'beryl -v'). Where did you get it from (official ubuntu package, or downloaded from the beryl website?)
 - please attach the file /var/log/Xorg.0.log
 - please also attach the file /etc/X11/xorg.conf

version:

beryl-core 0.2.1

repo:

deb http://ubuntu.beryl-project.org feisty main
deb-src http://ubuntu.beryl-project.org feisty main

since i could not install from the original ubuntu-repos yesterday as there were broken dependencies.

i just uninstalled all not-ubuntu-beryl-packages, removed the beryl-project-repo, removed all settings-files, did a apt-get update und installed all the dependencies of the beryl-metapackage.

still the same problem.

now i did this the other way round:

removed all ubuntu-repos from my sources.list (after backing it up :D), added the beryl-repos posted above, did a apt-get clean (forgot to mention it above), apt-get update, installed beryl and everything works like a charm.

so actually: it's the original ubuntu-repo messing things up.

meh, went awry after a few seconds of doing real work and not just clicking the affected menus.

another side-affect is that the menu icons of affected menus sometimes don't appear.
