Bug Description

this superseeds bug: #886954

Oneiric - Logitech Webcam C250 not recognised
Ubuntu “linux” package Bugs Bug #886954

Comment: After a complete reinstall of ubuntu 12.04 beta1 and during the install, the particular webcam was still connected, and in the install process I saw an invite to capture a picture which I accepted and it worked, proving that the webcam WAS recognised by ubuntu.
After ubuntu install I still found that cheese did not work, but I found that camorama did work ok with this cam.

Conclusion is that cheese is at fault

I intend to mark bug #886954 as invalid, although some information in the invalid bug entry might be useful for tracking down the cheese problem - eg the background?

Could you please try opening 'gstreamer-properties' and see if the camera works there?

Hi
yes it works as v4L2 with autodetect
and I believe the audio microphone works too after selecting suitable in the sound settings - I can see the input level reacting on the intensity bar.

thx

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

@ Vadim Rutkovsky (roignac)
Thank you
1) I installed Ubuntu 12.04 beta1 and completed updates
I used ubuntu software centre to install cheese webcam app
I connected the usb of Logitech webcam C250 to the PC
    I started cheese webcam app.

2) I expected that when cheese app started, an animation should appear in the cheese window suggesting connection of cheese to the webcam and graphic data display starting, then almost immediately I expect a picture displayed from the web cam.

3) Cheese app started, and showed an empty, black, cheese window, with tabs greyed out. There was no progress animation indication of webcam connection, and there was no cam picture.

Comment: This webcam otherwise works with other apps in this machine and with this ubuntu, as mentioned in notes above earlier. The webcam also works normally using the camorama webcam viewer app. However it does not work using cheese app.

Background information: bug #886954 was raised when I believed the problem was wider than just cheese, and tests, including upstream kernel tests were done there.

Cheese app worked with this cam in earlier ubuntu version: 10.04 updated, but stopped working from ubuntu 11.04 onwards.
