VLC Media Player outputs crackling sound in Feisty

VLC Media Player in Feisty Fawn (version 0.8.6 Janus) outputs crackling sound when the volume is high in all the media I throw at it. I've tried different movies that all work fine in mplayer, but in VLC they have a crackling sound if the sound is too high (note: not the actual volume output, but the volume level in the media file itself, compared to the rest of the volume in the media file) So it doesn't happen the whole movie through, but in most movie files it happens enough to be very annoying. I am using the default Audio output option in VLC (should be ALSA afaik)

About the package: I'm not sure it's vlc or one of its libraries, I just chose vlc as the bugged package here

I found out that setting the "Volume Normalization" and sliding the "Maximum Level" to the left helps a bit

I have the same problem with VLC in Feisty Fawn.
It seems to be the same as reported in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/vlc/+bug/103025
The workaround is to change VLC to use OSS instead of ALSA.
But it should definitely be fixed, so that ALSA support works fine with VLC.
