python-papyon needs to be moved from python-farsight to python-farstream.

Also, it's questionable why libfarsight and libfarstream should conflict instead of be installable in parallel. That would make upgrades a lot easier.

gnome-core-devel also needs to be updated to depend on libtelepathy-farstream-dev instead:

The proper disposition for papyon is removal. Filing another bug for that.

farstream and farsight do in fact conflict, the proper fix was the removal of papyon.

given that python-papyon is a dependency of emesene and telepathy-butterfly, the latter a recommendation of empathy, removing it is not zero-impact either.

Given that a safe-upgrade is still not possible and a full-upgrade wants to remove telepathy-butterfly, can you advise how to proceed? The "Won't Fix" is confusing given that the problem does not merely affect papyon and farsight.

@Joseph: telepathy-butterfly can be safely removed, because the MSN protocol functionality is also brought by telepathy-haze. So, I suggest you to proceed as follows:

1. remove telepathy-butterfly;
2. remove all its dependency (the ones that conflict): libgstfarsight0.10-0 libtelepathy-farsight0 python-farsight python-papyon;
3. proceed with the upgrade.

After those steps, the upgrade should have completed successfully and MSN should still be an available protocol.

@Andrea: thanks, that works. :-) It was actually one of aptitude's suggested full-upgrade solutions, but I didn't realize telepathy-butterfly was safe to remove.
