Bug Description

64-bit ubuntu 12.04 beta

I installed Chrome from http://google.com/chrome - There was a package for 64-bit ubuntu (.deb) which i used. The program itself worked wonderfully, i loved having, for example, voice search from my laptop (Worked amazing), it has other features i use.

I ran the search tool on the gnome launcher (top left button with ubuntu logo) - searched for Chrome - then dragged chrome to the launcher, so it was a launch button, i made sure it was locked to the taskbar or launcher or whatever you call it.

But when i run Chrome, no windows are marked as active, and if i minimize a chrome window it is gone for good never to be seen again but in the background somewhere.

The chrome browser opens fine. IT just isn't available as a window to switch to.

Note - most open windows are markded with a little arrow on the left of it in the launcher, that does not happen with chrome, There is also no secondary icon that is activated. If I click chrome a second time, it just opens a new window, any chrome windows that i minimize cannot, i repeat here, be restored to view again.

What I expect to happen: When the window is open for Chrome, there should be an icon on the left launcher telling me it is open. When I minimize a window, i should be able to somehow restore or maximize it.

What happened instead: If I minimize a Chrome window, it is gone for good. Even if i press Alt+Tab while chrome is open, it is not in the list of open windows to switch to, even if it is on the screen in front of me.

This appears to be "fixed" after a reboot.

I applied the latest updates (which i do several times per day) to the beta operating system. I then went to log out, and as happens from time to time at log out the computer freezes solid (not even ctrl+alt+f1 will unfreeze it), so i powered off, powered back on, and when i did this started working the right way.

This problem is probably unrelated to chrome.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/949985/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

Just FYI - After dragging to launcher, it seems a reboot is required before this works properly. I had the same issue when i dragged the official (non-ubuntu) VirtualBox into the launcher: After initial drag to launcher, it would not detect that it was running once i first clicked it, and the problem described above happenned. I'm not sure if this is happening for first time you drag anything from search to launcher, but it has happenned twice with me - and both times a reboot fixed it.
