I'm also having corruption on open ati drivers between pressing enter on password and desktop showing. However, it's not checkerboard for me, and there are a couple variations - corruption at top/bottom with image shifted a bit, black-and-white coloring but no corruption, or black-and-white with items moved to right and some corruption. Pretty random, anyway, and probably same cause of messing image/texture data somewhere.

Adding three pictures, which are ~full screen photos (screen frame visible in some of them) that are unmodified _except_ for the white rectangles where I just removed the other user names. Everything else happens on the screen.

Maybe this one I filed is a duplicate of this Bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nvidia-drivers-ubuntu/+bug/950171

But my screen looks a little different. I have it on both my machines
one fresh 32bit 12.04 install with recent updates
and a 64bit upgraded 11.10 64bit with recent 12.04 updates.

It seems the GPU memorized a strange mixed tiled version of what I had on screen before I restarted my computer. And it's not shown for long. It just keeps looking unprofessional and bugged for a few seconds and then works as intended.

It certainly seems to be some sort of buffering issue on the GPU.

If I've been on my 11.04 install and then reboot to my 12.04 install I see remnants of the 11.04 when logging in on 12.04.

Alan Pope ξƒΏ, as per http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P5N32E_SLI/HelpDesk_Download/ an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (1903). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything?

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

Once the BIOS is updated, and the information above is provided, then please mark this report Status New.

Thank you for your understanding.
