Bug Description

In an up-to-date Precise beta, scrolling with the wheel on a mouse doesn't work. I see this specifically in Gwibber. Scrolling by clicking on the scrollar tab works fine.

Steps to reproduce:
1. open an application with a long content (as a gwibber stream), probably just for those that use overlay scrollbars
2. move your mouse wheel up or down to have the window content scroll
3. notice that nothing happens to the content of the window

Expexted behaviour? Should be able to scroll with the mouse wheel, as in previous releases.

it happens to me too (yesterday everything was fine), but I noticed it doesn't happen in firefox, where there aren't overlay scrollbars

I think this is a different bug!
I've experienced that issue and this has nothing to do!

The problem here is that there's no response when using the mouse wheel (quite different from when the response is incorrect as in bug #928930)

please remove the duplicate status!

this bug is probably not hardware related, i tried with a mouse and the trackpad

Why do you say so? The problem here is not about scrolling highlighted item, is about the possibility to scroll

Please explain your point of view

Adding the Gwibber project to the bug report because I see this behaviour in Gwibber, but not in other apps that use overlay scrollbars.

ok, now scrolling with mouse wheel or touchpad works (sluggish, indeed: choqok with same accounts on Kubuntu Oneiric is much faster) but overlay scrollbars are unusable, they disappear before one can click & drag them.

This is a real bug - i.e., scrolling doesn't work. I'm not sure if it's a gwibber problem or a scrollbar problem, but we cannot say that scrolling not working is "invalid" as a bug report. Nor does the fact that the issues are being worked on make a bug report invalid.

Marking the bug as invalid increases that chances that a basic feature will ship in an unacceptable state. If you are trying to reflect that the bug is in Gwibber, then that status should be marked as confirmed. If you are trying to reflect that there is on going work on scroll bars that will fix this issue, then the status should be in progress or confirmed.

The issue is being fixed in gwibber with the addition of a GDK_SCROLL_MASK that was missing on the scrolled window.

This current bug, instead, is already fixed in trunk, waiting an updated package.

This was fixed with a combination of a work around in gwibber=3.3.91-0ubuntu2 and a gtk patch in gtk=3.3.18-0ubuntu2

Just Upgraded to 12.04 LTS from 11.10.
Setup: Using Oracle VirtualBox 4.1.14 r77440 ovr Windows 7 Ultimate.

Scrolling using Mouse Wheel has stopped working altogather.
It does not work in any application at all (tried with Dashboard, Firefox, Nautilus File Manager).
Booted back from 11.10 Live CD and Mouse Wheel Scrolling works fine.
Mouse Wheel Scrolling works fine in host OS as well.
