Bug Description

Software center does not find adobereader. When searching for "adobereader", it has no results, and when selecting all packages from Canonical Partner, it does not show Adobe Reader, either.

But when I went and downloaded the deb directly from Adobe, Software Center warned be that I better install that package from the software repository. So I checked with apt, and indeed, there were adobereader packages available:

apt-cache policy adobereader-deu
adobereader-deu:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 9.4.7-1oneiric1
  Version table:
     9.4.7-1oneiric1 0
        500 http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu/ precise/partner i386 Packages
        500 http://archive.canonical.com/ precise/partner i386 Packages

I would expect Software Center to show those.

Thanks for your bugreport.

When I search for adobereader in my current precise I find it there. However its not there on a fresh install.
So we need to add meta-data for it to the software-center-agent.

I tested this on a fresh install now and added the partner repository manually. Software-center detected the new repository after ~1 minute and updated the database and now I can find acroread.

I can confirm this bug.

After activating partner repos I can also find it when searching for "acroread", but that is the package name, not the name of the application. It is not found when searching "Acrobat Reader", "Acrobat", "Adobe" or "Adobe Reader"

Hey Uli, you thanks for your update on this. Are you on amd64? It appears the acrobat reader there failed to build that is why its not easily found. I look into this now.

See https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/acroread/9.5.1-1precise1 for the details that link to the build failure.
