Totem does not play youtube videos

Totem fails to play YouTube videos. It finds videos via it’s youtube plugin, but doubleclicking them raises an error dialog. This message gets printed in a terminal:

** Message: Error: No supported stream was found. You might need to allow more transport protocols or may otherwise be missing the right GStreamer RTSP extension plugin.

I have been unable to play certain video download from youttube in Ubunt 12.04 in Totem.
