XSane confounded by USB camera

Bug #9462 reported by Spetiam

xsane (Ubuntu)

Bug Description

If a USB camera and a scanner are plugged in, XSane will detect and try
(unsuccessfully) to use the camera, (1) not the scanner. If the camera is
unplugged, XSane can detect and use the scanner, (2) but works correctly ONLY if
XSane is run as root.

This suspiciously sounds like bug #8241.

Can you please stick in both the camera and the scanner and send the output of
the following commands:

  lsusb
  ls -lR /proc/bus/usb
  cat /proc/bus/usb/devices/

Thanks!

Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you. Here's the requested
information. I think you're right, this may just be a rehash of bug #8241,
because today the scanner/xsane works (still must sudo) with the USB camera
plugged in at the same time. I'm not sure if I tried the scanner + camera + sudo
combination earlier. Sorry if this is a duplicate. Thank you.

Anyhow, here's the info:
