Bug Description

Problems with xserver on G72 laptop

Hardware:G72-a01SG,
Processor i3,4GB RAM
Graphics: HD 5470
Since ubuntu 9.04 I always have a black screen when I try to change to ATI original driver. In newer versions of ubuntu (including 12.04 beta) I already have a black screen on installation. When I look very close with an extra light, I can see the installation screen. But still installation is impossible. I hope someone will give this information to the development team. For Graphics Cards in processor i3 the same applies.

We noticed that some of the sentences in this bug report are not in English. If they were translated in English they would be more understandable to triagers. Could you please translate them?

greg, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xorg-server REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Please note, given that the information from the prior release is already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one would not be helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.
