Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

Using gnome-screensaver 2.18.0-0ubuntu1 with the xscreensaver-data, *-data-extra, *gl,*-gl-extra 4.24-5ubuntu2 installed. Running the GLMatrix screensaver on Feisty Fawn Herd 5 (all updates) causes machine to lockup, or freeze and is completely unresponsive. HARD restart required.

Is this an incompatibility between gnome-screensaver and xscreensaver-data components?

That looks like an xorg bug. Could you attach /var/log/messages /var/log/syslog /var/log/Xorg.0.log to the bug after getting the crash?

Hi,

Turned out to be the nVIDIA drivers incorrectly installed - don't know why. Uninstalled them, and then reinstalled them, everything works. Something to do with improper OpenGL/GLX setup.

Agreed. Hasn't been a problem since I reinstalled the nvidia binary
driver (1.0-9631)

I've had 6.06 LTS for over 5 months & had no problems. It's a multi boot & when I boot to 6.06 screensaver is OK but when I boot to 7.04 screensaver seem slow & after about 8 minutes it locks. Ctrl+Alt+Backspace doesn't work, Cap lock key does not turn on cap led on the keyboard. I have to turn off the computer to regain control. BobE

Confirmed. I have this same problem on my 8.04 prerelease amd64 system. Since I am using the restricted drivers which ubuntu reccomended I install, it seems that ubuntus default configuration is buggy or something. That is of course assuming this bug is directly related to an improper configuration of the nvidia drivers.
