Bug Description

Wireless is non-functional, will not scan available access points.

I retested this in 10.10 and 11.04 and I was able to connect to a lab access point with no problem.

I saw something like this on a few systems (4 of them I think). Try running /usr/share/checkbox-certification/scripts/network_wireless_test on the failing machine. If it returns no wireless networks, what I usually do is restart Network Manager (sudo pkill NetworkManager), then wait a few seconds and retry the scan.

Also check of installing the proprietary networking drivers makes things work more smoothly.

I'll set the bug as confirmed since I also observed this (Toshiba Tecra A11, Tecra S11, one Dell Vostro 3450 and one Dell Inspiron 1545). The Dells normally require proprietary drivers but the Toshibas don't, so I'm not sure what caused this.

Also note that wireless worked fine during last week's certification testing of 10.04.4.

It is possible to request an SRU for this bug, but it would need a patch/bug fix already identified, or a set of patches not intrusive and self contained to the bug, that could be applied on Lucid.

I don't see a patch attached to this bug. However, we provide wireless backports through linux-backports-modules-2.6.32 already for Lucid with compat-wireless backports. Since maverick works, you can install linux-backports-modules-wireless-2.6.35-lucid-generic package.

Daniel,

I tried 10.04.3 - that failed and didn't work either. With no available drivers via jockey. I tested 10.10 and I was able to connect - I'm trying 11.04 now to see if it works there also; I'll reply back with my results.

Greg, as stated on comment #3, Ubuntu provides backport of wireless drivers for these cases, as a workaround/fix. On 10.04, you can install the package linux-backports-modules-wireless-2.6.35-lucid-generic, which are the compat wireless drivers from 2.6.35 (based on same kernel in 10.10), did you try using it?

Hi Herton, I tried installing the linux-backports-modules-wireless-2.6.35-lucid-generic and I was still not successful in using the wireless interface. I did test 10.10 and also 11.04 and BOTH work properly.
