This appeared to fail when it was installed as a dependancy of flight gear. I did a apt-get purge fgfs-base fgfs-atlas flightgear (I had to do it twice to get it to work) then installed each component seperately...that seemed to work fine.

So that you don't have to purge all of your existing flightgear configuration, an easier workaround is to manually remove the Flightgear directory if it is empty:

sudo rmdir /usr/share/games/FlightGear/
sudo dpkg --configure -a

This also happens when installing on a fresh install of Kubuntu 12.04.
