The modification made to php.ini in 11.10 were the following:

 [xdebug]

 zend_extension=/usr/lib/php5/20090626+lfs/xdebug.so
 xdebug.remote_enable=1
 xdebug.remote_host="localhost"
 xdebug.remote_port=9000
 xdebug.remote_handler="dbgp"
 zend_extension=xdebug.so

I cannot overcome this situation.

Francisco, thanks for taking the time to file this bug report and help us make Ubuntu better.

Your modified configuration file was kept, so that should be fine. Its not clear to me what broke in your postinstallation script, but if your system is still affected, you can edit the file

/var/lib/dpkg/info/libapache2-mod-php5.postinst

And add '-x' to the command line arguments for /bin/sh at the top. Then run

sudo dpkg --configure libapache2-mod-php5

That should show the step at which the script fails. Paste that here and we can debug further.

Thanks, Clint Byrum.

Anyway, I decided to reinstall 11.10, I was upset. I work in informatics
there is some time. But I worked until now with IBM mini as400 and
Cobol. Now, already retired, I want work with Linux and PHP but I'm a
beginner. I want to install a debugger, XDebug. I tried with Eclipse,
but it is a little complex. Now, I'm going to see if I can do it with
the debugger.

Francisco, it sounds like we won't be able to debug the issue any further, but thank you so much for taking time out of your schedule to help out!
