Bug Description

I try to reinstall isc-dhcp-server to fix some problem, but dpkg hangs itself and I need to kill it.

root@serveur:/home/pierre# apt-get install --reinstall isc-dhcp-server

then, no more output, the system seems idle.

Killing dpkg let me again use my prompt.

The logfiles does not show any useful error messages

I tried to update and upgrade. Most packages worked, excepted apparmor that did the same than isc-dhcp-server

I'm using edubuntu 12.04 alpha 2 and tying to set up a ltps server.

This seems a bug in the isc-dhcp-server package rather than a dpkg bug.

affects: dpkg (Ubuntu) → isc-dhcp (Ubuntu)
summary: - dpkg freeze for some packages
+ package installation hangs

I dont think so.

dpkg is not supposed to hang when using a bad package, but should exit with some error code.

It also fails for apparmor 2.7.99-0ubuntu1 unless it is a coincidence...

During installation, a package may execute arbitrary scripts to configure itself. This is the case of isc-dhcp-server, which has a "postinst" script.

Ok, I trust you, since my programming skills are limited to some turbo pascal programs 20 years ago !

What kind of information sould I provide to help to debug ?
Can I do some tests ?

Can you please attach:
 - /var/log/syslog
 - /etc/dhcp/dhcpd.conf
 - /etc/ltsp/dhcpd.conf
 - tarball of /var/log/upstart/
 - "dmesg" output
 - "ps faux" output at the moment of the hang

Subscribing ubuntu-security to have an opinion on whether apparmor could be the cause of the hang (as dhcpd ships an apparmor profile and the reporter said a similar hang happens when upgrading apparmor).

Thank you for your answer, but since I did not get any help, I had to remove Edubuntu.
Therefore I am not able to provide the requested files.

I finally installed Debian squeeze + LTSP package and that works well.
