Bug Description

Opened rhythmbox, selected device (iPod nano 5G), and clicked sync with library. The window dims (sometimes) as it processes my request and crashes after a few seconds.

I think I have disk usage on from a previous sync on Windows. Turning it off changed nothing.

I've got the same problem , and I think it started occurring after the update to Precise . My case is syncing to SD card (on an Android phone (WFS) ) . Sync hangs or directly crashes , also making a playlist on the device crashes RB .

Reproducible with iPod Shuffle 2nd generation + Ubuntu 12.04. Sync library crashes Rhythmbox, new playlist doesn't (the latter may be a separate bug, see comment #6).
I also can't copy any music files onto the device, which may as well be a separate bug.

About twice the crash also produced a crash report dialog ("rhythmbox crashed with SIGSEGV in <foo>") but I couldn't yet reproduce that. Also when I clicked the continue button in the crash report dialog, it disappeared and nothing happened - no launchpad session appearing in a browser window and no bug reports found with the above title. Guess the bug reporting framework couldn't really handle the case. If I come across it again, I make sure that I save the relevant information to post it here.

Also tried to run rhythmbox in debug mode, last output lines on crashing were:

(rhythmbox:3489): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_type_instance_get_private: assertion `instance != NULL && instance->g_class != NULL' failed
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

Also uccors with iPod nano with camera (5g?).
Last lines with debug:

** (rhythmbox:4006): CRITICAL **: itdb_splr_validate: assertion `at != ITDB_SPLAT_UNKNOWN' failed
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

After this bug occurs, rhythmbox is unable to synch as Other is listed as 13 EB (Epabytes) - Too big for my iPod.

Did anyone notice the same problem on 12.10?

Hi guys
The bug effects me as well under 12.10.
Rhythembox crashes when syncing to my ipod touch 2gen. I can also not sync the SD Card in my android handy. But I dont know if this is the same bug or another problem.

For what it's worth, if I go to my iPod's device properties in Rhythmbox, and deselect the Podcasts, and then choose Sync, it DOES go through the sync process... sort of.

When it "completes" the iPod shows as having synced, but the iPod itself doesn't show any of the synced music. Choosing "Eject" on the iPod in Rhythmbox causes the iPod to be re-mounted, but then I get the initialization box saying that the iPod is corrupt or somesuch.

Still not really a successful sync, but maybe helpful info.

Ah, quick addition to the above comment (since I can't edit). It appears that the music on my iPod is no longer there, but just appears in the library. The Music app just quickly skips over all the songs.

So I'm guessing the sync did actually happen, but the library is somehow corrupted.

Managed to use GTKpod as a temporary replacement for Rhythmbox and Banshee that are both crashing on sync for me.
