Wrong username or password gives no error message

Bug Description

1. Enter a correct username
2. Enter the wrong password.

Result: no error message, just a beep.

Expected result: error message and beep.

Mark, where do you want this error message to appear? Somewhere similar to the
capslock message would be ideal, but it can't be the same place (because these
messages are related, and may stomp on each other's turf), and we can't really
add more space for it in the login box area. Perhaps a red string sitting
between the ubuntu logo and login box area?

Try this on for size, right at the end of the file:
