Bug Description

Hi, i updated my 11.10 to 12.04 and i can' t get fglrx to work properly.
i tried jockey and manuel installation, removing everything and doing it again. But somehow it alwas ends up not working correctly.
my current Xorg. log contains

[ 2118.333] (EE) fglrx(0): atiddxDriScreenInit failed, GPS not been initialized.
[ 2118.363] (EE) fglrx(0): XMM failed to open CMMQS connection.(EE) fglrx(0):
[ 2118.363] (EE) fglrx(0): XMM failed to initialize

which hints to the fact that the kernel module is missing

and jockey gives somthing like

I did a fresh install of 12.04 and then tried to install fglrx-updates through jockey. Jockey ended with an error. I attached the jockey.log.

Installation through synaptic was ok and fglrx is working now.

This bug confuses new users and should be fixed.

@Jochen: Are you sure it worked ? I tried to reinstall the fglrx-updates and though it was installed I got an error that there was an error installing fglrx-updates:

Error! Application of patch fix-build-issue-on-i386-where-TS_USEDFPU-is-no-longe.patch failed.

So the modules is not installed in dkms.

Why is there a i386 patch on AMD64?

Due to the problem I reverted back to the original driver and removed fglrx-updates.

@Reinhard: yes I'm sure. Otherwise vainfo would not show which video profiles are supported on my gpu.
I'm using Ubuntu 32-bit. Maybe you have 64-bit and there is one more bug with this version?
