Bug Description

debsums reports those four PNG files being changed:

/usr/share/gnome/help/gparted/ru/figures/gparted_window.png
/usr/share/gnome/help/gparted/sl/figures/gparted_window.png
/usr/share/gnome/help/gparted/sv/figures/gparted_window.png
/usr/share/gnome/help/gparted/th/figures/gparted_window.png

According to the build log, other PNG files were optimized too, but debsum doesn't report those, so I don't think this is a problem with OptiPNG.

From checking the upstream repository, the four files listed above do not exist and have not been checked into git.

Upstream Repository:
http://git.gnome.org/browse/gparted/

For these translations to be complete, a location specific screen shot of gparted_window.png is required.

Perhaps the fact that these files are missing is causing the report of mismatch for four PNG files?

No idea, they are in the Ubuntu sources though (only bigger in size, as they get optimized during build time, but so do others which don't show up as changed).

I filed similar bugs about changed PNGs files (bug 936367, bug 936368, bug 936369, bug 936370) and all files are located somewhere in '/usr/share/gnome/help'.

Where in the Ubuntu sources did you observe these files?

I checked in the bazaar source repository for one of these files, namely "help/ru/figures/gparted_window.png" and I did not observe the file. The link I looked at in bazaar is as follows:
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~vcs-imports/gparted/master/files/head:/help/ru/

Oops, you are right - those reported files all are just symlinks to the "/usr/share/gnome/help/.../C/"-variant.

Isn't this expected behavior? You modified files belonging to a .deb package, so the md5sum is going to change.

If Optipng is modifying files belonging to a .deb and debsums isn't complaining, then shouldn't you file one bug against debsums (or individual bugs against those packages instead of the ones that debsums is correctly identifying)?

I didn't modify those images, they are optimized during the build process (likely to save valuable disk space :-)). I don't think I'm supposed to expect complaints from debsums after installing a package from the Ubuntu repos.

From an application developer point of view I don't think that I can address these package debsums.

Perhaps Dave Lentz is correct that these bug reports belong to the packaging process. There might have been a recent change in the packaging process that is causing these debsums to surface.
